Let's get productive and organize

(recommended apps + tips)

Let's be honest, getting productive isn't easy for some of us. But, to stay productive, we need to force ourselves to do things. You need to find the willpower to be able to move against your body’s wishes.

Luckily for you, the tips and tools you need to get organized can be found right here. No need to go crazy trying them all out, just pick one that works for you and give it a go. Once you master one tip, move to the next. It’s a simple strategy that’ll work for even the most unorganized person out there.

  1. Set a daily goal: Keeping a to-do list is the simplest and easiest proven tool to ensure you stay focused and increase your productivity. Set specific goals with a deadline and stick to them.
  2. First things first: Focus on only the most important task. Not everything on your list is urgent. Take a moment to identify your Most Important Task (MIT). This is the most critical thing you must get done -- get it off your plate first thing.
  3. Keep tasks manageable: To up your productivity, you need to break big projects into manageable chunks. Try breaking tasks down into smaller and smaller chunks, so you can focus on one area or one subject at a time. You’ll stay motivated and avoid distractions.
  4. Put away your cell phone: Do you think it is that hard to put it away? Research has found that people spend at least 5 hours a day on their mobile devices, with about half that time spent on social media, messaging, and entertainment apps. By simply putting your phone away for some time, or at least turning off notifications, you’ll gain hours of productivity and focus.
  5. Practice mindfulness: In case, if you donat know what is mindfulness, it is a mental state achieved by focusing one's awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one's feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations, used as a therapeutic technique. Practicing mindfulness meditation has been shown to increase the ability to focus and enhance learning and memory. Check out:  Mindfulness Isn't Just a Trend, It's Key to Being a Better Leader
  6. Take mental breaks: Mental breaks can be an amazing boost for your brain. Taking a brief break from work allows your mind to reset and restores your motivation. When you feel mental fatigue sets in, try stepping away from your desk for a few minutes. You can try stretching, going for a walk, or spending a few minutes outside enjoying nature.
  7. Declutter your workplace/study place: A clean and tidy space has a way of putting your mind at ease and increasing your ability to focus and go full-bore throughout your day. Researchers have found that when there is too much stuff in your field of view (like a messy desk), it has a measurable impact on productivity. They found that too much clutter causes people to lose the brainpower necessary to focus.
  8. Switch tasks: Have you ever been hard at work on a project, feeling focused, but after a while, you feel like you hit a wall? It’s like your brain just locked up. It could be you’ve been focusing on one thing for too long, and now your brain needs a change of topic. Try switching tasks to something else for a while. Switch it up by working on an entirely different task. Giving your brain a variety of things to work on can help you stay alert and productive for longer.

And it goes on and on.

Here are some recommended apps for getting organized (in case if you don't want to use a plain notebook for getting organized):-

  • Trello- This productivity app is, at its core, an online corkboard. You use it to organize “cards” into lists—those cards can be tasks, notes, projects, shared files, or anything else that helps your team work together. It's an amazing app for organizing, especially projects. And, it's free too!
  • Evernote: EverNote is a note-taking app that is also the reigning king of productivity. Its potential runs deep, no matter if it’s just you or an entire team who’s using it. Keep track of to-do lists, note-taking, lengthy research, web clippings, photos and drawings, and pretty much anything else. Evernote integrates with all of your devices (like Google Calendar, Google Drive, or Dropbox), allows collaboration both in-app and web browser form, and presents all of your data in one easy-to-navigate digital workspace so is easy for task management. (Other good option: Slack).
  • Wunderlist: The app has a task and subtask feature, with due dates, reminder alerts, and the ability to assign and categorize; meaning collaboration with other users is allowed here as well. You can use Wunderlist for everything from random little tasks to big work projects. It’s an all-around great task management app to add to your ios Rolodex.

For Reading:-

  • Pocket: Found a great article you don’t have time to read? Pocket-it. Pocket is a browser extension that syncs with the app on your phone (Android device or iPhone). When an article (or picture, video, web page) is “pocketed,” it becomes available to view offline in the app, which is very useful. You can also tag anything you pocket, making it easy to categorize everything on your to-check-out-later list.

For Social Media Management:-

  • Hootsuite: Are you a social media pro? If so,  is here to help you out. You can schedule all of your social media posts and they’ll be posted for you at a specified time in this to-do list app. Hootsuite analyzes your follower data and suggests the best times to post for the highest engagement.

For Fitness:-

  • Fit Notes: Exercises can also be good for your productivity. It can be hard to remember how many squats you did last week and at what weight, so Fit Notes makes it easy to track and remember. You can track your progress, see frequent workouts, the last set you did, and create custom routines.
